Jamie Theakston Announces Stage One Cancer Diagnosis

Jamie Theakston, co-host of Heart Breakfast, has revealed he has been diagnosed with stage one laryngeal cancer. The 53-year-old shared that he recently underwent surgery to remove a lesion from his vocal cords and that the prognosis looks promising.

In a statement, Theakston addressed the news, saying, "Yes, I have cancer—but cancer doesn’t have me." He expressed optimism about his recovery and mentioned that he expects to return to the show in October. "Until then, I’ve been advised to rest my voice," he added, thanking his co-hosts JK (Jason King) and Amanda Holden for stepping in during his absence. "A huge thank you to them and the entire Global family for their incredible support. Be thankful for today, and when I’m back, I’ll have quite the story to share."

Heart Radio posted their support on Instagram, calling Theakston "our beloved Jamie" and sending him well wishes.

Theakston's career took off as a TV presenter, with roles on iconic BBC programs such as The Ozone, Live & Kicking alongside Zoe Ball, and Top of the Pops. He later went on to host quiz show A Question of Pop and The Priory on Channel 4, again teaming up with Ball. In the early 2000s, he hosted the reality show The Games, and in 2009, he reunited with Ball for Channel 4's Britain's Best Brain. Theakston joined Heart Radio’s flagship breakfast show in 2005, where he continues to be a popular voice.

Fans and colleagues alike are looking forward to his return as he takes time to focus on his recovery.
