Tito Jackson Experienced Medical Crisis Near New Mexico Mall Prior to Passing

Tito Jackson, an original member of The Jackson 5, passed away on Sunday, September 15, following a medical emergency in Gallup, New Mexico. The 70-year-old musician is believed to have suffered a heart attack while driving from New Mexico to Oklahoma.

On Monday, September 16, the Gallup Police Department released further details about the incident. At approximately 6:17 p.m. PT, a police officer was flagged down near the American Heritage Plaza on U.S. Highway 491. The officer was informed of a person in need of medical assistance and quickly called for an ambulance. Jackson was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Detectives and the Office of the Medical Investigator were notified, and the investigation into his death remains ongoing.

Jackson’s sons, Taj, Taryll, and TJ Jackson—best known as the pop group 3T—shared their heartbreak over the loss of their father on Instagram. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson, has passed away,” they wrote alongside several photos of Tito throughout his life. “We are in shock, deeply saddened, and heartbroken. Our father was an extraordinary man who cared deeply for everyone.”

The message continued, “Whether you knew him as Tito Jackson from the iconic Jackson 5, ‘Coach Tito,’ or ‘Poppa T,’ he will be sorely missed. For us, it will always be ‘Tito Time.’” The Jackson family also urged everyone to honor their father’s message of love and kindness, writing, “Please continue to do what our father always taught: ‘Love One Another.’ We love you, Pops.”

Tito Jackson leaves behind a legacy as a member of the groundbreaking Jackson 5, his solo career, and his influence on his family.
